PT-141, commonly known as Bremelanotide, is a synthetic derivative of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone. It works by activating melanocortin-1 (MC1R) and melanocortin-4 (MC4R) receptors.

One of PT-141’s key features is its non-selective targeting of melanocortin receptors (MCRs). MC1R is linked to increased melanin production, while MC4R and MC3R, found in the central nervous system, play a role in brain pathways related to sexual response.

Additionally, PT-141 stimulates dopamine release in the brain, which enhances sexual arousal and stimulation.
